BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- "I hate you!" These 3 little words are like a dagger going into any parent's heart. And yet, inevitably, a teenager will utter them.

So imagine Leslie Rosenthal's surprise, when her then 14-year-old daughter, Emma, said, "Let's start a business together."

Fast forward 3 years.

"I feel like the store is something that has brought us together," says now 17-year-old Emma Rosenthal.

The store is the Posh Pooch in downtown Bethesda. It is a luxury boutique for today's pampered dog. It's here you can get top of the line designer duds for Fido: everything from sweaters, rain gear, one-of-a-kind collars and leashes.

You can even get a wedding dress and tux for that "special couple." And let's not forget the accessories: party collars, jewelry, hats and bows. Once your dog is all dolled up, then she/he can eat from only the finest of bowls--some imported from Italy and France.

"On my 14th birthday my mother and I went to New York City," says Emma Rosenthal. "We visited all these really cool dog stores and we just figured there was nothing like this back here. So I thought this is something we can do together."

"I was a stay at home mom for 18 years. And really had no plans to embark on such a huge project at that time," says Leslie. "And I thought how can I refuse because it's not every day that your daughter comes to you and says let's build a business together."

Mom and daughter work together on the store's layout. They also travel together on buying trips. Like any business team, there can be some disagreement.

"When we go to buying shows or stuff like that, there are things that I think will sell better, there are things that she thinks will sell better," says Emma.

One thing Mom is in full agreement on is the store's website. Emma is the brains behind it. Leslie readily admits she is "technically challenged" at times. Emma is the one with the technical know-how and artist's eye. In fact, two other companies in our area have noticed Emma's work on the Posh Pooch website. They now have Emma designing their sites.

"She's creative. She's fun. She has great ideas," Leslie says with the pride of a beaming mother.

It can be a dog-eat-dog world in business, but this mother-daughter duo are determined to keep it fun and a growing experience for both of them. Not only financially but also in terms of their relationship.
